OUR PROJECTS
We believe that education, like health, is a fundamental right that must be guaranteed to every child. We believe that education is one of the basic elements of any community's development. This is why the Aquinoise Solidarity Association (ASA) has decided to help the residents of Grosse Caye realize their dream of seeing their children attend school by participating in the construction of a school on their island.
Grosse Caye School
Grosse Caye Island has an area of approximately 120 hectares of land and a population of between 800 and 1,200 inhabitants divided into two communities.
During our visit, we were stunned to see the state of need in which the population lives: there is no drinking water, no sanitation facilities, no school and no church.
To meet their basic needs, the population has no choice but to stock up on supplies from coastal towns. The nearest coastal town is Aquin, located about 10 km from the island, or an hour's crossing when the weather is favorable.

Health clinics
The Association organizes outpatient medical clinics in certain localities of Aquin where health care is difficult to access.
Since the clinics were established in 2009, we have benefited from the collaboration of volunteers from the United States, France, Haiti, and Canada to provide free health services.
We also added a preventive component through the presentation of various conferences and the introduction of a teaching program covering the most common diseases in the community (e.g. diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.).

Microcredit in Aquin
On Sunday, December 18, 2022, ASA launched the microcredit project in Aquin.
This project was funded by the Federation of Regional Associations (GISROMH) in Canada.
It aims to contribute to improving the well-being of the population of the commune of Aquin through activities that reduce the level of unemployment while increasing household income.
The project helps women heads of households affected by the earthquake of August 14, 2021, escape unemployment. This is achieved through financial support repayable in cash over a period of up to six months.

Help the city of Aquin
We financed the roof repair of the Saint-Thomas Church in the town of Aquin.
With the collaboration of the FAS and the ADF, we also participated in the identification of street names in addition to the purchase and installation of street lamps across the city.
Each year, we contribute to the Destination Aquin Festival by funding advertising for the event. The event brings together artists from around the world to share their talents with the people of Aquin.

HDI goat project in Grosse Caye
The project involves providing goats to at least 500 families to encourage livestock farming on the island of Grosse Caye. These goats were purchased at the Fonds des Blancs market, about twenty kilometers from Aquin. The goats were transported to the island by our local committee.
In addition, the ASA signed a contract with the families who received the kids to ensure their maintenance and well-being.
This project will help improve the economic conditions of the population of Grosse Caye who live below the poverty line.

Fishing and agriculture
to Zanglais
In the Zanglais area, fishing and agriculture are the main sources of income for residents. The community's elders have formed a committee called the Council of Elders to develop ways to maximize this income and ensure that a portion is reinvested in the region's development.
Our Association contributed financially to the construction of a center to serve as a meeting place for the Council of Elders and other community events. A drinking water supply system was installed there to serve the surrounding community.

Distribution
Our association offers food aid services to residents of the Aquin region during outpatient clinics.
We also distribute health products (bandages, disinfectants, masks, medicines, etc.), tents and mattresses to residents who, to this day, are living in a persistently precarious situation.
Our team also regularly delivers gallons of water to the population of Grosse Caye Island.

Bakery Project
ASA continues to work with the community of Grosse Caye. Did you know that the organization has decided to make this community even more self-sufficient by supporting the construction of a bread oven?
Indeed, it is the residents who manage and monitor the activities, working closely with the ASA team in Montreal. Now, the people of Grosse Caye enjoy fresh bread made daily by a working population.
Buying and eating bread is good! Making your own bread is even better!
An excellent contribution!
